Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Or commonly known as OMD for short. They are probably best known in the States for their hit “If You Leave” from the movie Pretty in Pink. It’s a great song, however their catalogue offers so many other brilliantly crafted synthpop gems. Such as…

“Messages”

“Electricity”

“So In Love”

“Enola Gay”, “Tesla Girls”, “Locomotion”, “Forever Live and Die”, and of course “If You Leave” are also personal favorites.

  1. Excellent band and one on the way back after their fantastic recent tour. DVD release of this coming soon and documentary on them coming in about a month’s time. New album next year…

  2. That’s excellent news Si!

  3. I hope they tour AMerica sometime..they are definitely a band I’ve always wanted to see. Electricity is one of the first songs to inspire me.

  4. Enola Gay was probably the first synth pop song I learned on keyboard. I played it over and over and over on my acetone organ and casio VL-Tone pocket calculator.

  5. Wow, Joe! You played OMD on a Casio pocket calculator???? my mind is boggling! :o

  6. Yes, and it wasn’t easy with the tiny keys, but you could also enter the notes in a sequence and just hit those blue keys on it and it would play note for note what you recorded at the tempo you wanted – a very early, very cheap sequencer. I still have it too by the way.
